Biaggi's - Omaha, NE
posted by snekse

Looks like Mamma Spice has saved me the trouble of blogging about Biaggi's because I completely agree with her.
  • The food is great - much better than one should expect from a large chain.
  • The duck confit is fantastic - I would have a hard time ordering a different appetizer that I've never had before over one of my favorite dishes in Omaha.
  • The wait staff sucks - inattentive, inconsistent and in need of training.
("There are supposed to be sour what on that dish?")
Besides the duck confit, I highly recommend the Penne Sardi.
Penne pasta tossed with grilled chicken, wild mushrooms, caramelized onions and a sun-dried tomato cream sauce. Finished in the oven with a topping of crispy garlic and oregano seasoned breadcrumbs.
YUUUUUUUMMMMM.

And if you like Biaggi's, be sure to check out Spezia which of course I'm going to have to blog about now since I have pictures and everything. Thanks a lot Mamma Spice ;-p

  • I think the "Excellent" rating I gave them is more than fair. I do not give out points lightly, as evidenced in the fact that only TRU restaurant in Chicago has achieved a score of 95+. There are others that I have been to that also achieve this score, I just haven't blogged about them yet. None of them are in Omaha.

Biaggi's staff is simply under trained, all the way up to the management. When you list on your wine menu that you carry vintage port and a customer asks what vintages you stock, "10, 20 and 30 year" is not a valid answer. I expect the wait staff to not only know how to pronounce "confit", I also expect them to have a basic idea of what it means. Lack of knowledge and basic inattentiveness accounted for about 2 points lost, and in this case, prevented me from declaring them "Outstanding".

So let me ask you - have you been to Liberty Tavern or Darwin Bistro yet? Or even Spezia for that matter? The food at Spezia was just as good and the service was a bit better. I'd be interested to know what you think.
